Discover and celebrate the best local games at Indonesia Games Contest

It is a great time to be a mobile game developer on Android with the opportunity
reaching more than a billion global users on Google Play. At the same time,
developers in fast growing mobile markets like Indonesia have an additional
opportunity in the form of a huge local audience that is hungry for local
content. We have already seen thousands of Indonesian developers launch high
quality, locally relevant games for this new audience, such as “Tahu
Bulat” & “Tebak
Gambar”.

In our continuous quest to discover, nurture growth, and showcase the best games
from Indonesia, we are really happy to announce Indonesia Games
Contest. This contest celebrates the passion and great potential of local
game developers, and provides an opportunity to raise awareness of your game
with global and local industry experts, together with gamers, from across
Indonesia. It’s also a chance to showcase your creativity and win cool
prizes.

Entering the contest

The contest is only open to developers based in Indonesia who have published a
new game on Google Play after 1 January 2016. Make sure to visit our contest
website for the full list of eligibility
criteria and terms. A quick summary of the process is below:
  1. If you are eligible, submit your game by 19 March 2017.
  2. Entries will be reviewed by Google Play team and industry experts, and up to
    15 finalists will be announced in early April 2017.
  3. The finalists will get to showcase their games at the final event in Jakarta
    on 26 April 2017.
  4. Winner and runners up will be announced at final event.

Meet the 20 finalists of the Google Play Indie Games Contest

Back in November, we launched the Google Play Indie Games Contest for developers from 15 European countries, to celebrate the passion and innovation of the indie community in the region. The contest will reward the winners with exposure to industry experts and players worldwide, as well as other prizes that will showcase their art and help them grow their business on Android and Google Play.

Thank you to the nearly 1000 of you who submitted high quality games in all types of genres! Your creativity, enthusiasm and dedication have once again impressed us and inspired us. We had a very fun time testing and judging the games based on fun, innovation, design excellence and technical and production quality, and it was challenging to select only 20 finalists:

Announcing the winners of the Google Play Indie Games Festival in San Francisco; Indie Games Contest coming soon to Europe

Last Saturday, we hosted the first Google
Play Indie Games Festival in North America, where we showcased 30 amazing
games that celebrate the passion, innovation, and art of indies. After a
competitive round of voting from fans and on-stage presentations to a jury of
industry experts, we recognized seven finalists nominees and three winners.

Winners:
bit bit blocks
Presented by Greg Batha
Bit Bit Blocks is a cute and action-packed competitive puzzle game. Play with your friends on a single screen, or challenge yourself in single player mode. Head-to-head puzzle play anytime, anywhere.
Numbo Jumbo
Presented by Kaveh Daryabeygi, Wombo Combo
Numbo Jumbo is a casual mobile puzzle number game for iOS and Android. Players group numbers that add together: for example, [3, 5, 8] works because 3+5=8.
Orbit – Playing with Gravity
Presented by Chetan Surpur & Eric Rahman, Highkey Games
ORBIT puts a gravity simulator at the heart of a puzzle game. Launch planets with a flick of your finger, and try to get them into orbit around black holes. ORBIT also features a sandbox where you can create your own universes, control time, and paint with gravity.

Antihero is a “fast-paced strategy game with an (Oliver) Twist.” Run a thieves’ guild in a gas-lit, corrupt city. Recruit urchins, hire thugs, steal everything – and bribe, blackmail, and assassinate your opposition. Single-player and cross-platform multiplayer for desktops, tablets, and phones.
Armajet [coming later in 2016]
Presented by Nicola Geretti & Alexander Krivicich, Super Bit Machine
Armajet is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter that pits teams of players against each other in fast-paced jetpack combat. Armajet is a best in class mobile game designed for spectator-friendly competitive gaming for tablets and smartphones. Players compete in a modern arena shooter that’s easy to learn, but hard to master.
Norman’s Night In: The Cave [coming later in 2016]
Presented by Nick Iorfino & Alex Reed, Bactrian Games
Norman’s Night In is a 2D puzzle-platformer that tells the tale of Norman and his fateful fall into the world of cave. While test driving the latest model 3c Bowling Ball, Norman finds himself lost with nothing but his loaned bball and a weird feeling that somehow he was meant to be there.
Parallyzed
Presented by David Fox, Double Coconut
Parallyzed is an atmospheric adventure platformer with unique gameplay, set in a dark and enchanting dreamscape. You play twin sisters who have been cast into separate dimensions. Red and Blue have different attributes and talents, are deeply connected, and have the ability to swap bodies at any time.

Finalists nominees and winners also received a range of prizes, including Google
I/O 2017 tickets, a Tango Development kit, Google Cloud credits, an NVIDIA
Android TV & K1 tablet, and a Razer Forge TV bundle.

Indie Games Contest coming to Europe

Congratulations to the winners of the Google Play Indie Games Contest 2017 in Europe

We have just wrapped up the second edition of the Google Play Indie Games Contest in Europe! The iconic Saatchi Gallery in London welcomed 20 developers, from 12 countries, who showcased their games to the audience of gamers, industry experts, and journalists.

The finalists’ games were on show to the public, who spent three hours trying out their games and voting for their favourites, alongside the Google Play team. The top 10 finalists were then selected, and went on to pitch their games, and compete for the big prizes in front of our jury.

Please join us in congratulating the winners! They will be bringing home a well-deserved diploma, along with a prize package that will help them reach more gamers worldwide; including premium placement on the Google Play Store, marketing campaigns of up to 100,000 EUR and influencer campaigns of up to 50,000 EUR, the latest Google hardware, tickets to Google I/O, and much more.

It’s really inspiring to see the excitement around this second edition, and great to see the new wave of indie games coming from Europe. We are already looking forward to playing the games that will be developed in 2018!

Meet the finalists of the Google Play Indie Games Contest in Europe

Back in October we launched the 2nd edition of the Google Play Indie
Games Contest in Europe, with the aim to identify, showcase and reward indie
gaming talent from more than 30 countries. We were amazed by the innovation and
creativity that indie developers from the region have to offer.

Selecting just 20 finalists has once again been a huge challenge. We had a lot
of fun playing the games that will go on to showcase at the Saatchi
Gallery on February 13th in London. Without further ado, we are happy

Android Things Contest Winners

Back in September, we worked
with Hackster.io to encourage the developer community to build smart
connected devices using Android Things and post their projects to the Developer Challenge for Android
Things. The goal was to showcase the combination of turnkey hardware and a
powerful SDK for building and maintaining devices at scale.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest and submitted a project or
idea. We had over 1100 participants register for the contest, resulting in over
350 submissions. Out of that group, we’ve chosen three winners. Each winner will
receive support and tools from Dragon Innovation to develop their
concepts into commercial products. Join us in congratulating the following
makers!

Best Enterprise Project: Distributed
Air Quality Monitoring

Maker: James
Puderer

Monitor air quality on a street-by-street level using Android Things, Google
Cloud IoT Core, and taxis!

This project showcases how Android Things makes it easy to build devices that
integrate with the various services provided by the Google Cloud Platform for
robust data collection and analysis. It’s a clever end-to-end solution that
shows understanding of both the problem domain as well as the technology.

Best Start Up Project: BrewCentral

Maker: Trent Shumay and Steven Pridie

Brewing amazing beer is a balance of art, science, and ritual. The
BrewCentral system makes it possible for anyone to do an all-grain brew!

BrewCentral pairs a real-time PID controller with the touch-enabled UI and
decision-making compute power of Android Things. The result is a system that
accurately controls the time, temperature, and flow rates necessary to achieve
repeatable results during a brew cycle. The planned enhancements for cloud-based
brewing recipes will make this a connected experience for the entire brewing
community.

Best IoT Project: BrailleBox
- Braille News Reader

Maker: Joe Birch

BrailleBox is a small piece of hardware that empowers users who are
hard-of-sight to read the latest news articles in Braille.

This project is a great use case of using IoT to have a social impact. The
current proof of concept streams articles from a news feed to the Braille pad,
but this project has the potential to leverage machine learning on the device to
translate additional input from the physical world into a Braille result.

Honorable Mentions

The community submitted some amazing projects for the contest, which made the
choice of picking only three winners extremely difficult. Here are a few of our
favorite projects that weren’t selected for a prize:

  • Andro
    Cart: A shopping cart device powered by Android Things. Designed to help
    decentralize point of sale (POS) billing.

  • SIGHT:
    For the Blind: A pair of smart glasses for the blind, powered by Android
    Things and TensorFlow.

  • Industrial
    IoT Gateway: A smart industrial gateway for the IoT world based on Android
    Things.

  • Sentinel: The
    first semi-autonomous home security robot based on Android Things.

  • Word
    Clock: A creative take on reading the time, powered by Android Things.
    Control it via the Nearby API or the Google Assistant.

Android Things Hackster Contest

Android Things
lets you build professional, mass-market products on a trusted platform, without
previous knowledge of embedded system design. With Android Things you get a
turnkey hardware solution and an easy-to-use software development platform based
on Android Studio and the Android SDK — making it easy to build designs that
scale to production. Android Things is currently in developer preview and we’d
love to see what you can build with our
latest release.

Today we are announcing a contest with Hackster and NXP for developers to
showcase their use of Android Things with other Google developer platforms.
Project ideas should be added to Google’s Hackster.io Community by
including Android Things
as a software component, then registered through the contest page.

Idea Submissions

Submit your project ideas starting today. Ideas submitted by September 29, 2017
are eligible to receive one of 120 Pico Pi i.MX6UL Kits to use in the final design. During this phase, projects do
not need to be complete; we just want to see your amazing ideas! We are looking
for concepts in the following categories:

  • Smart Home
  • Robotics
  • Smart City
  • Industrial IoT / Manufacturing
  • Retail
  • Entertainment

Project Submissions

Final projects must be submitted by Oct 31, 2017. Your project does not need to
be one of the chosen recipients of a Pico kit to be eligible for the grand
prize. Winners will receive support from Avnet, Dragon Innovation and
