Australia Vs England 01/08/2013 – Scorecard, Review and Statistical Highlights

The Day 1 of the Third Investec Ashes Test match between Australia and England on 01/08/2013 kicked off with Australia winning the toss and electing to bat first.  England would have loved batting first too but this was a positive start for the Aussies as they had been struggling on the tour so far.  Read on for the complete Australia Vs England 01/08/2013 Scorecard along with the batting and bowling performance review and the statistical highlights of the match.

Statistical Highlights

CricketIn comparison to the last two test matches, Australia (AUS) had more intent in their batting and looked positive right from the start.  Their opening stand was decent with Shane Watson and Chris Rogers having a stand of 76.  They both ended their first innings score at 19 and 84 respectively before Watson was caught at slip while Tim Bresnan was bowling.  The main highlights of their batting however came in the form of Michael Clarke who made a superb 125 along with Steven Smith who scored 70.  They both remained not out with the Aussies at a score of 303 for 3 at the end of Day 1.

As far as England’s (ENG) bowling on 01/08/2013 was concerned, they struggled quite a bit.  After getting Watson out, Usman Khawaja was soon given out after DRS came into action once again only to create more controversy.  The decision made a lot of heads turn as Khawaja definitely didn’t look to be out.  There were angry twitter reactions from famous Cricket personalities, commentators and coaches who claimed that the decision might have been made by the third umpire (Kumara Dharmasena) just to save the face of the on field umpire who had obviously made an incorrect decision.  You can now take a look at a few angry tweets and scorecard of the day 1 of 3rd Ashes Test Below.
